THOROUGHBRED Racing SA is calling on country racegoers to bring their fashion A-game to the Mini Jumbuk Naracoorte Cup on Sunday.
Coinciding with the Taste the Limestone Coast Festival, the Naracoorte Racing Club’s largest annual event will feature not only a collection of SA’s finest food and wine producers, but a fashion competition that could pay major dividends.
The winner of this year’s Naracoorte Cup Sofitel Melbourne on Collins Fashion on the Field competition will become a semi-finalist in Fashion at The Races, a year long, State-wide search to find SA’s best dressed racegoer.
In total, 15 Fashion at The Races finalists will be selected over 26 SA race meetings throughout the 2011/2012 season, culminating at SA Derby Day (May 5) at Morphettville Racecourse, with first prize a brand new Volkswagen Polo and second prize, a $3000 wardrobe and styling session from event sponsor Liza Emanuele.
The overall “best dressed” winner of Naracoorte Cup Fashions on the Field will proceed to the Limestone Coast final at the Penola Cup (April 8) and take home a fantastic accommodation package with the Sofitel Melbourne On Collins. What’s more, the Naracoorte Racing Club is also awarding prizes in the categories of “best dressed couple” and “best headwear”.
“The fashion stakes for this year’s Naracoorte Cup just got a lot higher, and this time the girls - and guys - could win big,” Fashions on the Field event organiser Jen Marsh said.
“With the Final of Fashion at The Races just a few months away, we’re getting to the business end of the season. We’ve already seen fashions of a very high standard at events across the State so now is the Limestone Coast’s chance to show that our region catch match it when it comes to racing fashion.”
Food and racing festivities in Naracoorte will begin tomorrow with a Naracoorte Golf Club tournament, followed that evening by the Mini Jumbuk Calcutta at the Naracoorte Racing Club.
On Saturday, 50 of the region’s award-winning wine and gourmet food producers will converge on Naracoorte town centre for the Taste the Limestone Coast Festival - and again on Sunday where they will serve up a feast at the races.
“The Naracoorte Cup is not just an event for regular racegoers - it’s a true celebration of our region,” Naracoorte Racing Club secretary Alan Taylor said.
“Whether you’re a foodie, a punter or you just relish the opportunity to get dressed up, Naracoorte Cup is for you.”
Tickets for a range of race day hospitality options are available for purchase, including entry to the Coopers Home Straight Marquee, which features a barbecue lunch, unlimited beer and wine and entry to the course.
Entrants to Fashion at The Races can be either male or female, must be 18 or over and will be judged on appropriateness of the outfit for the particular event, originality and confidence, attention to detail with accessories, appreciation of current fashion trends, grooming and deportment.
All regional winners who progress to the Fashion at the Races Final will be treated to two nights’ accommodation at Oaks Plaza Pier Glenelg and hospitality for two at Derby Day.
Gates to the races open at 10am. Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 concession with children under 16 free.
