Work on the Plaza's new car park area where the old convent site once stood started on August 1 and is expected to be complete by the end of this month.
Perks Property Investments CEO Richard Hayman said the additional parking would benefit customers.
“The old convent site was in the middle of the car park, it was logical to turn it into more car parks,” Mr Hayman said.
“We are trying to improve parking around the centre so customers can get in and out easier.
“There will be more convenient car parks for the shopping site as the car parks on the other side of the convent site was a little bit far away from the shopping centre.”
While car parks have been added, plans for additional shops on site have been abandoned for now.
“Because of the tough economic times we’ve had to put this on hold until the time is necessary,” Mr Hayman said.
