Festival a joint effort

02 Feb, 2012 09:59 AM
NARACOORTE’S Taste the Limestone Coast Festival to be held on February 10-12 is a great example of country town partnerships, according to Lions Taste Committee chairmanc Derek Blackwell.

The 2012 festival has grown to include a wide range of organisations from Naracoorte and across the Limestone Coast.

The participation statistics for the coming festival are quite impressive. In the management and organisation of the festival, there are, in addition to Naracoorte Lions Club; Naracoorte Lucindale Council and Business and Tourism, two service clubs (Soroptimists and Rotary), two sporting clubs (Naracoorte Racing Club and Golf Club), the Art Gallery, Naracoorte North Kindergarten, Limestone Coast Farmers Market and 17 generous sponsors.

While the golf club, racing club, art gallery, farmers market and Naracoorte North Kindergarten all run their events as separate functions, they have all agreed to come under the “Taste the Limestone Coast” banner to help promote one another to bring people to Naracoorte, to enjoy a range of events and activities and to promote the wonderful attractions of the town and region.

Activities will start at the Golf Course on February 10 with the art exhibition, outdoor movie “Puss in Boots”, and the racing club calcutta later in the day.

On February 11, buskers will entertain in the morning and the town squares will host the festival activities that will be brought to you by the following local businesses and groups: nine wineries, two hotels, three service clubs, one sporting club, one youth group, five local food businesses, three bands, a book author/publisher, children’s activities, clowns and several soloists.

From outside of the local area there will be four food and drink stalls, one band and of course, the visiting National Year of the Farmer Travelling Roadshow, which is an added attraction this year.

Naracoorte Lions are certainly pleased that the local “flavour” will be strongly represented in this year’s festival and this is something ththe club wishes to grow in future years.

Organisers are also delighted that a huge number of local businesses are once again joining as “Friends of the Festival” and they urge patrons to take note of their banners on the festival fence and to support businesses that support the town.

The festival concludes on February 12 with the Farmers Market, cars and bikes on show, buskers and the Naracoorte Cup race meeting.

Mr Blackwell added that the committee felt that: “Partnerships such as these are essential in a country town. If we can work together to promote tourism and to get people to stay in Naracoorte and in the Limestone Coast, generally, then everybody benefits.

Naracoorte Lions have also pledged that profits from the festival will go the community CT scan appeal for Naracoorte Health Service.
