It’s all in the Taste

09 Feb, 2012 10:43 AM
THE 2012 “Taste the Limestone Coast Festival” this weekend will provide activities, entertainment and fun for local families and visitors alike!

Activities over the weekend include sporting, musical, artistic, family, markets, displays, food, wine and more.

For the sporting enthusiasts, there are the Taste 4 Ball Ambrose Golf Competition tomorrow and the Mini Jumbuk Naracoorte Cup race meeting on Sunday.

Families will be able to enjoy the “old-time” feel of the “Drive In “movies at the showgrounds on Friday night with the Naracoorte North Kindergarten showing the new movie “Puss in Boots”, as well as providing catering .

For those families who are bringing their children with them to the “Taste Festival” day itself, there will be a children’s activity tent, clowns, face painting and activities connected with the National Year of the Farmer Travelling Roadshow.

Art enthusiasts will be able to visit the Naracoorte Art Gallery where a new competition exhibition “Ibis Rising” will be opened at 6pm tomorrow.

The Limestone Coast Farmers Market will take over the town squares on Sunday morning with a wide range of fresh and locally grown produce.

During the morning buskers will entertain the public and a display of classic and street cars and motor bikes will add colour and interest to the event.

The highlight of the festival weekend is the Taste Festival Day on Saturday. During the morning, street buskers will set the scene for the day’s activities. Festival attendees will enjoy practically non-stop music from 11am until after 6.30pm from “Calamari for Breakfast”, “Little Black Dress”, “The Mechanics”, “Tenor’s Elbow”, Nigel Fosdike with Penny Burke and Georgie Shortt.

The food on offer should tempt all palates, and the festival would not be complete without the taste of the magnificent wines made in the districts surrounding Naracoorte.

To satisfy young, old and those who prefer non-alcoholic drinks, there will be coffee, milk drinks, energy drinks, soft drinks and water.

Naracoorte Lions Club is thrilled that Saturday will be the first opportunity for South Australians to view the “Australian Year of the Farmer National Roadshow”.

This interactive display will be a welcome addition to the 2012 festival and it will highlight the festival theme “From Paddock to Palate”.

Lions Festival chairman Derek Blackwell said everything was in place for a fun and friendly festival and now all that is needed is for the weather to cooperate.

He also added, however: “Attendees are reminded that this is a family friendly festival and that irresponsible drinking and irresponsible and dangerous behaviour will not be tolerated.

“Security staff and police will be on hand and they will be asked to remove anyone demonstrating such behaviour.”

The message of relaxing and enjoying the festival while drinking responsibly, eating sensibly and being sunsafe are all being actively promoted at the festival and organisers sincerely hope festival goers will have a safe and enjoyable time at Taste 2012.
