NARACOORTE McDonald’s is thanking the community for its support by investing $40,000 in four shelters on school bus routes leading into town.
The green shelters, with the “golden arches” logo on the sides, are being erected by Naracoorte Lucindale Council.
The shelters are to service Wrattonbully, Stewarts Range, Wild Dog Valley and Hynam areas.
McDonald’s owners Bryce and Liz Crick said the donation was about giving back to the community.
“It’s about being able to give something back straight away, and it’s about supporting people that support you,” Mrs Crick said. “It will be really good, especially for the high school students.”
She said the couple want to be regularly involved with the community.
The council had been very helpful throughout the process.
They felt fundamental areas of regional towns could often get overlooked and McDonald’s was happy to address a need.
“Opportunities needed don’t always get funding,” she said.
Council director of operations and technical services Phil Burton said the bus shelter locations were picked after several meetings with McDonald’s and school representatives.
“It was decided at their request that the four bus shelters were placed at strategic sites on the four main roads leading into Naracoorte on existing school bus routes,” he said.
The Hynam bus shelter location is being reviewed while the council talks with locals and bus route users to find the best site.
