Country music marathon draws big crowd

THE three day extravaganza that is the Lake Charlegrark Country Music Marathon drew another good crowd last weekend.

Sweltering temperatures may have kept some people away during the day but organisers were still pleased.

"It went very well," committee president John Naylor said. "We had a fantastic weekend."

He praised the hard work of the committee and volunteers which kept the weekend running smoothly.

A fire in the region during the day on Saturday also thinned the crowd but those who were there had a blast, partying to the music well into the night on Saturday.

Mr Naylor estimated close to 1000 people would have come through the gate over the three days, and all were well behaved.

He said the highlight of his weekend was seeing the number of people staying at the lake.

"There was a large number of people camping," he said.

But the real attention was on-stage.

"The acts were exceptional," Mr Naylor said. "(Headline act) McAlister Kemp were really good."

All proceeds of the marathon, which were still being counted up earlier this week, will go to local charities.
