Baseball for breast cancer

WHEN deciding what to raise money for this year, Naracoorte Rangers Baseball Club only had one cause in mind.

Upon learning that committee member and supporter Tracy Cattermole had been diagnosed with breast cancer, donating to the Naracoorte Breast Cancer Support Group was a given.

For their annual fundraising event the club hosted a division one game with two Mount Gambier teams, Tigers and South Indians, battling it out on the diamond.

There were also raffles, food and drinks for sale and a fairly extreme haircut for Tracy's daughter Darcel Cattermole whose long hair was cut into a short bob.

All profits from the day, which tallied just under $3000, were given to the support group to go towards help for patients in the local area.

Ms Cattermole said it was great to see so many people come out to support the day.

"The committee worked so hard to bring it all together and did such a wonderful job.

"I want to thank everyone who made it happen."

She added she was keeping a positive outlook despite her diagnosis.

The Naracoorte Breast Cancer Support Group has in the past purchased a sentinel node biopsy machine and a lymphodema laser machine for Naracoorte Hospital.

Naracoorte and District Hockey Association also held a recent fundraising event for the local support group - raising $150 from a barbecue.
