WITH both grades seeing the top team and fourth teams after the town netball minor round playing in the grand final, both games were a lot closer than some had thought on Saturday.
Both underdogs came out and played grand final standard matches.
The A grade grand final saw Tigers warming up in the first quarter against KDOs with only a two goal lead.
Buba Poka-Smith showed her excellent shooting as per usual, with the ball being fed to her by Tigers strong centre court and sister Jodie Stone knowing exactly where Buba would be.
KDOs' defence played a strong game with Kelly Tanner also playing her usual 100 per cent.
But after a fall in the last quarter she slowed down a little. While KDOs were missing one of their main goalies, the score was the best for the season against Tigers.
WWAs and Tiger Cubs also had a great game to watch. Although WWAs won by 13 they had to fight hard for every goal scored, as did the much improved Tiger Cubs, but with Brooke Hislop and Bronwyn Pallant combining well in defence the young Cubs struggled to score.
A grade results: Tigers 45 defeated KDOs 33; Goals Tigers: Buba Poka-Smith 32, Jodie Stone 13; Goals KDOs: Sarah Pitt 20, Jess Lacey 8, Kim Sander 5.
Best on court: Buba Poka-Smith, with umpires saying "she finished off consistently what was fed to her".
B grade results:
WWAs 48 defeated Tiger Cubs 35. Goals WWAs: Sam Norton 35, Kimbo Watts 13; Goals: Tiger Cubs: Dom Watson 18, Nat Chilcott 17.
Best on court: Brooke Hislop: with umpires saying "she played a strong defensive game".
Wind-up and trophy presentation night held after the grand final seen player dress up in a time warp theme (era of their choice).
President Lydia Pulford welcomed life members Tanya Munn, Robert Hack and Erica Hyslop, and thanked the committee, players, umpires, scorers and timers for their support during the season.
Trophy winners were:
A grade: netballer of the year Shelley Williams (Tigers Gold); best and fairest: Trinity Fauchelle (Tigers Gold); best and fairest runner-up: Ange Thornley (KDOs) and Buba Poka-Smith (Tigers).
