TWO young local athletes have started to find their feet in the world of running.
Naracoorte pair Hannah Elliott and Harry McInnes competed at the Australian Cross Country Championships in Tasmania on August 31.
Hannah joined Bordertown's Whitney Rowett competing in the 11 year old girls 3km event.
The two girls from the SE were very evenly matched, with Hannah just pipping Whitney at the line to be the best out of the SA runners in the event - 14th overall.
So close were their times that they both were listed as taking 12 minutes, 33 seconds to complete the course.
As a result of her placing Hannah was selected to run in SA's composite relay team the next day.
The composite relay is a team of six, with one boy and girl competitior from ages 10-12.
Hannah was the sixth runner for SA, bucking the trend which usually has the 12 year old boys finishing the race.
SA came first in the event with Hannah getting the honour of crossing the finish line.
Harry also ran on August 31 in the 10 year old boys 2000m race.
He ran the course in eight minutes, 40.89 seconds, finishing 30th.
