THE dream didn't quite finish up perfectly, but Lachie Neale was still part of something special on Saturday.
The former Kybybolite junior footballer started as the sub in his side's 15-point loss to Hawthorn and had to watch for three quarters as his side tried to become accustomed to the increased pressure that comes with a grand final.
He was subbed on at the 4-minute mark of the fourth quarter for Zac Clarke and had seven touches, five by foot, but Hawthorn was too strong and handled the occasion better than the Dockers.
It was a disappointing end to Fremantle's best ever season, with their first grand final berth not bringing them a flag in their 18th year at the top level.
The win was Hawthorn's 11th flag since joining the VFL/AFL in 1925.
Neale and his teammates attended a club function in Melbourne on Saturday night along with family and friends before flying home on Sunday morning for a family day at Subiaco in the afternoon.
