NARACOORTE Smallbore and Air Rifle Club held its annual prize shoot on the weekend of September 21-22.
There were a record number of entries with 48 shooters from SA and Victorian clubs entering and providing strong competition shooting at 90m, 50m and indoors on the air rifle range.
Naracoorte businesses again provided enormous support by donating prizes for place-getters. These sponsors will be invited to join shooters at a sponsors day in a few weeks time.
The range was upgraded this year with new target frames as the result of a grant from the Naracoorte Lucindale Council community chest.
These new frames provided a larger background for targets and eliminated the problem of shooters firing on the wrong target.
The club has established a reputation with visiting shooters for the quality of the catering over the weekend.
This year a sit down dinner was provided on the Saturday night at the club as well as barbecue lunches on both days.
This was made possible by the generous donations of meat from Tender Cuts Butchers, Rob Kriesl and Steve Chaston.
Shaun Watson and the crew at Tender Cuts cooked the meat for the Saturday night and prepared it on the day.
Club members provided a range of salads and the whole process was managed by Ursula Smith, Hannah Maddern, Jayne Stacey and Gill Miller in the kitchen.
There were some challenging conditions for shooting over the weekend with winds that fluctuated in strength and direction but, despite this, high scores were shot by event winners.

Emma Adams won the lady's watch with her perfect 100 in Air Rifle and Kim Lang won the man's watch with his 100.06. The 06 in his score indicates that six of his 10 shots scored on the small inner 10 ring.
The weekend was a huge success with shooters already looking forward to returning next year.
