NARACOORTE Golf Club president Michael Schinckel has announced he will continue the tradition started by previous president Darren Turner and supply a keg of beer for the club's official opening of the summer season this Saturday.
The keg and a traditional barbecue lunch cooked by Andrew Sincock starts from 11.30am and will be welcomed by all the players.
This year a change in format will see the closing of the winter season and opening of the summer season on the same day.
The morning players (7.30am shotgun) will finish their competition round by 11.45am with the winter season trophies presented at noon with the morning and afternoon players present enjoying the barbecue.
The morning and afternoon male and female members will be competing for the Brian and Helen Sherlock patron's trophies starting with the morning players and followed by a 1pm shotgun. The competition will be a 4BBB par.
Schinckel also advised that the club committee is offering a summer membership for all new members of a $100 discount for one week between October 12-19.
Summer membership is normally $320 but for $220 you receive the same full benefits of normal membership.
Another initiative that is growing in popularity is the $50 per month membership plan.

Work is continuing on course improvements and the doubling of the size of the fifth tee has been a priority with outstanding results.
Greens committee chairman Richard Male said making the back right bunker more visible from the tee and allowing more tee positions the fifth is now a true championship par three hole.
The next major event planned is a "Trader's Day" on a Friday in December and will be organised by Peter Brown and Tim Shortt.
Club president Michael Schinckel said: "Golf, it's a great habit to get into".
