Basketballers brave the heat

IT was hot! hot! hot! as Naracoorte senior men's basketball started up again on Monday night.

The competition has been split into two divisions and players were all keen to brave the heat and get back into it.

In DIVISION ONE Black and Kyby showed why they are the hot favourites, with Black getting up 42-37.

Paul McRostie again scored at will, dropping 27 points while also claiming plenty of boards.

Shane Kavanagh chipped in with 11 of his own.

For Kyby Bill Munn notched up 15 and Duncan Ogilvie 9.

In the second division one game the under 18 squad pipped Navy in a thriller, 42-39.

Tom Hunter scored 13 for the young guns while Brayden Smith supported him with 9.

Hunter and Sam Crook were judged their side's best.

Navy's Matt Mills scored 18 while young Nathan Standley's seven was his side's next best.

Jason Standley and Josh Koennecke were the best for Navy.

DIVISION TWO had Red and Maccas first up.

The scoreline wasn't pretty for Maccas as they went down 70-14.

Andrew Leech scored 27 for Red and Callum Mackinnon 18.

Leech and Jamie MacDonald were Red's best.

For Maccas MJ Castro and Will Lobban scored five points each, with Lobban and Daniel Leech named best.

The under 16 squad defeated Maroon for the second time this season, this time winning 40-31.

Maroon were battling hard all night without four regular players and for most of the game did not have a bench after fill-in Matt Turner went down with an ankle injury.

The under 16s took advantage with Harry Attwood and Nic Songvilay doing as they pleased, scoring 11 and 10 respectively.

For Maroon the bulk of the scoring was left to Grant Baker and Sam Brooksby with 10 each.
