Penola Australia Day celebrations

AUSTRALIA Day celebrations for the Penola district will start with breakfast in the Penola War Memorial Park hosted by the Penola Lions Club on behalf of the Wattle Range Council.

Bacon and eggs will be prepared by the Lions club and CWA members will ensure there is plenty of tea, coffee and orange juice available.

Breakfast will be served from 7.45am until 8.45am.

Guest performers Jamie and Michael McInerney will perform the first of three entertainment segments.

The talented sister and brother duo from Mount Gambier will be accompanied by their singing teacher Pamela Walker.

The duo will be performing solos and duets from a varied Australian repertoire during this and the other two segments later in the program.

The official part of the program will start at 9am with the national anthem.

Guest speaker will be Benedetta Rusconi, a journalist and photographer who migrated to Australia from Italy and now lives in Penola with her husband Brian Wagner and their two children.

Wattle Range mayor Peter Gandolfi will deliver the Australia Day message and he, aided by Penola councillors Dean Burrow and Rob Thornett, will conduct the presentation of the Australia Day awards for the Citizen of the Year John Zwar and Young Citizens of the Year Ella Kidman and Brad Merrett.

CWA president Heather Wheeler will make presentations to the recipients.

Lions president Jeff Hoare will present the Penola Lions Senior Citizen of the Year to Mary Pounsett.

Event coordinator Lion John Zwar reminded people to bring a chair.
