THE eighth annual instalment of Welly's Poker Run on February 22 promises to be the biggest and best yet.
The popular event organised by Mark "Welly" Wellington and a small band of helpers started from small beginnings with about 30 people attending, but has grown to the point where last year it drew more than 300.
In that time, Welly and friends have raised more than $30,000 for charity, directing much of that to the Royal Flying Doctor Service but also helping bushfire victims and Ronald McDonald House.
This year, the event will be run for the first time under the direction of the United Motorcycle and Car Club and the major beneficiary will again be the RFDS.
It will be based at the Naracoorte Showgrounds and registrations will be taken from 8am, with a show 'n' shine from 8.30-11am.
The poker run will leave the showgrounds at 11am and follow a route around the region before arriving back at the showgrounds by about 5pm.
Presentations and raffles will follow, as well as quality music from local band Sweet September. Great prizes will be available thanks to generous sponsors.
Overnight camping will be available and there is no BYO allowed. Cars and bikes can be entered in the poker run for $30/head and everyone is welcome.
