Hundreds hit road for poker run

WELLY'S Poker Run keeps getting bigger and bigger.

Welly's Poker Run set off from Naracoorte again on the weekend with close to 300 registered participants. Across 114 bikes and 71 cars there were 292 poker hands - up on last year according to rapt organiser Mark "Welly" Wellington.

"It was good," he said. "We had just over 300 for lunch at Casterton Football Club."

The ride went from Naracoorte, to Apsley down through Dergholm and to Casterton before crossing back into SA via Penola and back to Naracoorte.

Once the run was over presentations were held at the showgrounds and around 150 stayed for the entertainment, with local band Sweet September keeping the crowd going.

Mr Wellington said the funds from the run were on par with last year when $12,500 was handed over to the RFDS.

He thanked all the sponsors and the helpers who made the event run smoothly, including Peter Day and his staff for the catering and the Naracoorte RFDS Support Group for their help.

The newly-formed United Motorcycle and Car Club, through which the event was run, is planning an Anzac Day run - details to follow.
