Lucindale misses out on One Night Stand

LUCINDALE will not play host to this year's Triple J One Night Stand music festival - but organisers behind the campaign haven't given up hope.

Sights are now set on the 2015 event after the radio station made the announcement that Mildura, Victoria would be the lucky regional town this year.

Thousands are expected to flock to the Sunraysia on May 17 to listen to a line-up of popular bands including Rufus, Violent Soho, The Jungle Giants, Illy and Dan Sultan.

Last year a handful of Lucindale locals got together to form a One Night Stand sub-committee and to start working on ways to grab Triple J's attention. One of them was Kate Rayner who said she saw great potential for new events - like the One Night Stand - to be held in the SE region.

If successful, the live concert would be held at Yakka Park - a 45ha venue which hosts over 20,000 people each year for the SE Field Days.

It is also the site for a three-day country music festival this April and other events throughout the year.

The "Lucindale One Night Stand 2014" Facebook page has over 5500 "likes" and @LucindaleONS on Twitter has over 100 followers.

People from all over the Limestone Coast and beyond are encouraged to get on board by sharing any quirky ideas they might have - whether it be events, photos or related paraphernalia - on social media. Mrs Rayner said she had recently received some letters of endorsement from key people in the area and was gearing towards kicking the campaign up another notch.

The Triple J One Night Stand has been held in SA twice - Port Pirie hosted it in 2006 and Tumby Bay in 2011.

The station provides the bands and other logistical set-up but the town needs to be able to prove that it has the facilities and community support to host it.
