THE old water tower on Sandstone Ave which had stood redundant - and as a soft target for vandals - for roughly 20 years is no more.
Last week a team from Adelaide-based business McMahon Services were sent in by SA Water to demolish the structure which for years had stood hulking in a corner of the vacant block at the rear of Naracoorte RSL and District Bowling Club.
Site supervisor Shaun Holland said it was a fairly straight-forward job to take it down.
The crew were in town for almost a week to bulldoze the structure and clean up the area.
A spokesperson for SA Water said it was the building associated with an old bore that was decommissioned many years ago.
"The building is unsightly, is subject to vandalism and has no long term beneficial use," the spokesperson said of the decision to knock it down.
It's not yet clear whether the now completely vacant block will be used for a specific purpose any time soon.
