NARACOORTE'S Women's Wellness Group is inviting ladies of all cultures to attend its next event - whether you've recently arrived in Naracoorte, have lived here for many years or been here forever.
"Women around the world" will be held at the Senior Citizens Clubrooms from 2pm to 4.30pm on May 18.
Guest speaker Dr Jill Benson was awarded an AM in the 2012 Australia Day honours for service to medicine through contributions in the field of mental health, particularly for refugees and people seeking asylum as well as the Indigenous community in SA.
Jill will speak about her incredible work and experiences in Aboriginal health and refugee camps around the world.
Her presentation will be inspiring and informative offering insight into the unique challenges people face.
Jill will facilitate interaction with the audience inviting women to share their own personal stories and insights after experiencing adverse life events.
The event was recommended by Debbie Walker, committee member of the Women's Wellness Group.
Debbie is the clinical service coordinator at Naracoorte Community Health and instigated the "New Arrival Refugee Immunisation Program".
"Naracoorte is a multicultural town but we tend to live in our own 'silos' even though, as women, we share similar concerns when caring for the health and wellbeing of our families," Debbie said.
"It will be nice for us all to have the opportunity to get to know each other, share stories, accept our differences and embrace our similarities."
The Women's Wellness Group is hoping this event informs participants of the supports available locally for women of all cultures.
To make the event accessible for everyone, the five committee members and their partners are fundraising by going out on Mother's Day to collect wood to sell by the trailer load.
The event is also sponsored by NAB, Medicare local, and Soroptimist International Naracoorte.
This fundraising and sponsorship has kept entry to just a gold coin donation which will include an afternoon tea thanks to the generosity of Soroptimist members.
This is the second event the Women's Wellness Group has hosted since forming in 2013.
Its mission is to inspire women to reach their unique potential by providing information to enhance physical, mental and spiritual health for themselves, their families and their communities. ]
The ultimate goal is to have a Women's Wellness Centre in Naracoorte.
