Naracoorte soccer | Mount Gambier visits

NARACOORTE United welcomed Centrals from Mount Gambier for matches in Western Border soccer on Sunday.

Under 12s

The under 12s flew the flag for Naracoorte, with a stellar performance against a confident Centrals squad. The first half saw United dominate the play, with Byron scoring a fine goal in the early stages.

A minor lapse allowed Centrals to score, midway through the spell, resulting in scores being locked at one all at the break.

This did not really reflect the improvement and dominance that Naracoorte displayed, and early in the second half Paddy put United into the lead.

Centrals were not finished, and a penalty gave them the chance to hit the front, but this was thwarted by the diving Tyler, who really commanded the Naracoorte goal, with increasing confidence, and an assured authority.

Centrals eventually struck back, leaving the scores tied; when another beautiful shot from Byron put Naracoorte back in front, giving them their first win of the season.

Special mention must be given to "Super Woman" Erin, who totally dominated the midfield, and made a huge contribution towards Naracoorte's win.

Under 17s

The 17s were given no chance against a well drilled and powerful opposition, who expected to walk away with the points.

Sorry guys, you didn't read the script properly, and you were really made to work for your win.

Coaches Phil and Leanne had drilled the squad hard during the week, working on faults from last week's Apollo game, and identifying strategies to explore.

The first goal went to United, a combined effort from Phill and Josh, which sent Centrals rocking back on their heels, and this is how it remained until half time.

Ciaran was magnificent in goal, while our back line of Callum, Corey, Owen and Matt proved to be virtually unbreakable.

Age, size and experience finally prevailed, and Centrals won the day by three goals to one.

What a huge improvement and a magnificent effort from our team.

B grade

All this year, the reserve team has been plagued by injuries and had to borrow Callum and Corey from the under 17s to make up the numbers.

Again Naracoorte played hard and fair in the first half, but could not stop Centrals from having a one goal advantage at half time.

Naracoorte were unlucky not to score a couple of goals, but in the end conceded a further four goals to end the day five nil down.

In spite of just having played for the 17s, Corey and Callum, along with Dan, were judged to be the star performers of the day and the best and fairest on pitch.

A grade

Our seniors had a poor day and did not play at their best; however it was United that opened the scoring, very much against the run of play.

Centrals were quick to lift their tempo, and in spite of star defenders Sigh and Kazem, were quick to exploit any chinks in our armour.

Their efforts were not unrewarded and little by little Centrals chipped away at our defence and ended up the winners by four goals to our one.

The seniors can hold their heads up for a great performance, while the 17s can shout their own praises on high.

This week's glory however, goes to the magnificent 12s who proved that with dedication and application they can win anything they want.
