LUCINDALE'S Layton Copping and Peter Stock travelled to Darwin to compete in the "Mastercraft" Australian Water Ski Championsips recently.
The event was held at Berry Springs over the Easter weekend and both were part of the 14-person SA team.
There were 180 competitors from every State and territory who came together for the five days of competition which consisted of two rounds of slalom, trick and jump.
Layton competed in the "men over 55 years slalom" division and was very happy to ski a personal best in what was his first nationals appearance.
Peter, in his sixth Australian championships, skied in the "men over 35 year slalom" and was pleased to put two consistent scores on the board.
While both were competitive in their categories they were also in awe of the ability of the skiers at the top level - even seeing some new Australian records being set.
The SA team finished the tournament in fifth position overall.
As well as competing, officiating duties were expected of the two.
Both are members of the Robe Water Ski Club and are instrumental in hosting what has become a very popular local tournament on the national calendar.
Next year is SA's turn to host the nationals in Mulwala and preparations for the event will start soon.
