NARACOORTE Women's Wellness Group held its "Women Around the World" event on May 18.
Forty ladies enjoyed the afternoon hearing the life experience of invited guest speaker Dr Jill Benson.
She spoke of her experiences as a GP in a range of settings in Australia and overseas - in affluent communities and Third World settings, in communities that recognised mental illnesses and provided support, and communities that had no language or had unpronounceable words used to describe mental illnesses.
Dr Benson currently works in Adelaide with refugees and also facilitates and monitors the health of three indigenous communities in remote SA.
She asked the audience to share their experiences.
A few of the women who now call Australia home shared their stories of how enriched their lives had become.
The event was sponsored by Naracoorte NAB Bank, Medicare Local and Soroptimist International SA - Naracoorte branch.
Soroptimist members catered afternoon tea and were offered the donation from the gold coin entry.
The women's wellness group has its next event planned for July 4.
It will be "Financial Health for Women" with guest speakers including a financial planner and a representative from NAB.
The group asked the public to show its support through sponsorship, donations or buying a trailer load of wood to help bring these events to the women of the community.
