IT will now officially cost a dog owner $150 for not having their dog on a leash in designated areas.
Naracoorte Lucindale Council approved the non-compliance fine at last week's July council meeting after it had been omitted from its fees and charges guide.
Dogs can now not be without a leash on "local government land or public place to which the council has resolved that this sub-clause applies; or on any park or reserve during times when organised sport is being played".
The dog can, however, be secured by a strong leash 2m or less in length either tethered to a fixed object, or held by a person capable of controlling it.
Signs warning of the by-law have been erected on relevant council land.
