Burial site for Muslims

MUSLIMS will have a place in Naracoorte to bury their loved ones soon.

A Muslim burial ground - measuring 30m by 3m - will be developed at Naracoorte cemetery in October.

Naracoorte Lucindale Council allocated $7000 in the 2012-13 budget to develop the Muslim site.

Works manager Shane Francis said the existing cemetery would also be expanded at a cost of $25,000.

Work may start in October if the weather is favourable and concrete walkways would be created.

Contractors would take about three weeks to do the work, which had been “on the books” for about four years.

For the expansion of the existing cemetery, “we will be duplicating the bays we’ve got out there already”.

Reza Alizada - a local Muslim - was killed on August 5, 2009, in a car accident on Schultz Rd and sent the migrant community into mourning.

The vineyard contractor was survived by his wife Nooria Alizada and their four children.

Local migrants had requested a burial ground about a year before Mr Alizada’s death.
