A fire at a hotel on one of Adelaide's busiest intersections has played havoc with morning peak hour traffic.
Passing motorists phoned emergency crews shortly before 6am after smoke was spotted coming from the roof of the Gepps Cross Hotel at Blair Athol.
The building was well alight by the time firefighters arrived.
Thick smoke caused poor visability, forcing police to put road closures in place.
"Motorists are advised that traffic restrictions are in place and to either take an alternative route or expect delays," a police spokesperson said.
"The smoke in the area is heavy and visibility is poor so please slow down and take extra care."
Three major roads feed into the five-way intersection including Port Wakefield Road, Grand Junction Road and Main North Road which connects Adelaide's north to the city.
The cause of the fire is not yet known.
Police said no injuries had been reported.
