Penola's Leigh Woolston and Mike Redman shape up to Kybybolite's Paddy FitzGerald and Brad Redding in the reserves first semi-final this year. In a similar fashion, Penola will not be going down without a fight as they remain committed to the KNTFL despite recommendations they re-join the Western Border Football League.
PENOLA Football Club is committed to remaining in the KNTFL despite the final recommendations in the Southern Border Review released last week.
The September 26 reports said: "Based upon all feedback, the panel recommends that the Penola Football Netball Club join the Western Border FL (or new entity) for the 2013 season."
Penola Football Club president Michael Palm expressly denied his club would move back to the league it departed from in 1988.
"We're geared up and ready for the 2013 KNTFL season," he told the Herald last Friday. "The general talk through the club is we are happy where we are."
Penola have been quite successful in their move, with four flags in what was first the Kowree-Naracoorte Football League and now the KNTFL.
"I was part of that (when we moved)," Mr Palm said.
He said Penola was a country side in a city league in Mount Gambier and struggled to remain competitive on and off the field.
The move to a country league has been good for Penola who are now competitive with good numbers across all grades and netball.
The unification of football and netball all on one day was highlighted as a positive of the leagee by Mr Palm.
Although there are talks of that changing, the Western Border Football League does not have all sides across both sports playing on the same day.
Mr Palm said last Friday he had no contact from any officials from the Western Border Football League or the SA or Victorian Community Football Leagues who have administered the report.
Mr Palm concluded that Penola was committed to remaining in the KNTFL and being part of one of the best leagues in the State.
