Naracoorte Lucindale mayor Erika Vickery and library manager Paula Coventry are excited about the new "one card" library system.
TODAY marks the beginning of a new and improved library system in Naracoorte, with more books available than ever before.
Still in its early stages, the SA public library "one card" network will eventually link together more than 130 libraries across the State, allowing users to choose from millions of items.
By logging onto the new-look website, library members can borrow and reserve books, DVDs, CDs and magazines from the centralised system.
No longer will they have to wade through multiple library catalogues as the system is now centralised, giving users access to items from both metropolitan and regional libraries.
Naracoorte library manager Paula Coventry said the system was a lot more streamlined but would take a bit of getting used to.
"People are looking forward to using it but it will take a bit of time to educate everyone during the transition.
"It will put us on par with the rest of the State, or even ahead," she said. "We are getting the system before Mount Gambier."
The "one card" network is being funded by Naracoorte Lucindale Council and despite the initial set-up costs it will be cheaper in the long term.
Naracoorte Lucindale mayor Erika Vickery said it would be a great service.
"It offers a much wider choice for library users and there really is a fantastic range of items for everyone," she said.
"There is equality for country and metro users and it potentially has the ability to increase the use of the library."
The Lucindale school community library will also be included in the "one card" system.
Library users are reminded to be a bit more patient over the next few weeks as staff familiarise themselves with the new network and educate others.
