A 30-year reunion of the successful Edenhope Football Club senior side will be celebrated on May 27.
The Edenhope A grade won the KNFL flag in 1986, 1987 and 1988 as well as reserves in 1987 and U14s in 1988, along with the A and E grade netballers in 1988.
Both Carl Robertson and Brian Burke were fantastic coaches and their job was made easier coaching such memorable names as Greg Thomas, John “Flung” Burchell, David, Steven, Jim and Jeff Ryan, Brian “Cobber” Cassidy, Bernie Mulraney, Warren and Steven Tucker just to name a few.
1986: The successful EFC team was coached by Carl Robertson and defeated Apsley and David McDonnell won the league B&F for the U17s.
1987: Again coached by Carl Robertson, EFC defeated Kybybolite and Greg Thomas won the league goalkicking award with 65 goals. The reserves were also crowned premiers that year and were coached by Brian “Cobber” Cassidy and took home the flag against Kybybolite.
1988: This year the team was coached by Brian “Mangler” Burke and defeated Padthaway to win the club’s third successive senior premiership flag. The club also saw “Cobber” Cassidy win the league B&F. The club also had more success with its U14s winning the flag coached by Alan O’Bryan.
Both A and E grade netballers had success with the A grade side coached by Julie Cassidy and the E grade side coached by Tracey Taylor (McFarlane).
Many great players and characters have donned the red and black during that time but the club enjoyed success both on and off the field. With new clubrooms to celebrate in, the town of Edenhope was certainly a vibrant place to be.
On the day of the reunion, Edenhope Apsley play Laharum at Edenhope and all players and past officials from that time are invited to come along and join in the celebrations.
The senior side will wear the traditional Edenhope Bomber guernsey with the names of senior premiership players in the sash.
