Lightning strikes claim sheep

Three sheep have died in a suspected lightning strike at Lochaber.

A massive electrical storm woke many of us at about 3-4am Wednesday, and is believed to be the culprit of the death of a first-cross ewe and her twin lambs.

The sheep were discovered by farmer Ross Orton in a Lochaber paddock about 1km north-east of Cockatoo Lake.

A path of lightning appeared to have blazed the ground either side of the sheep and the force of the strike had also exploded nearby rock.

Ross’s son Andrew said the lightning during the storm had struck with such force that houses in the neighbouring area shook.
