A unique metal detecting and prospecting ‘come and try’ day will take place in Naracoorte this weekend.

Anyone interested or who is curious about the hobby are urged to attend the workshop this Sunday.

RM Electronics owner Rob Rob Mutton who is the head oraniser of the day encourages people to come and give the hobby a go.

“If you’ve ever been thinking about going prospecting, give this a go,” Rob said. “It gets you started and if you want to go further then you can come see us later on.”

Special guests including gold buyers from Melbourne and a representative from tech company Minelab will give presentations on the day.

Participants will be taken out onto a field and taught how to adjust the detecting devices to soil conditions.

“We cover most of things you need to know about prospecting,” Rob said. “There will be a lot of experienced prospectors there to also help the new guys with their machines.”

Having previously hosted to similar events, Rob now feels the hobby is growing in popularity.

“Generally everyone who comes to one these sorts of events comes back,” he said.

People are invited to meet at the RM Electronics store at 10am on Sunday, May 21 .

Metal detectors will not be on sale at the event.
