SA livestock producers have welcomed recent changes to the Livestock Production Assurance program.
The ongoing development of the LPA will see a greater focus on biosecurity and animal welfare practices.
Livestock SA vice-president Joe Keynes said the changes help to maintain the integrity of SA’s red meat industry.
“The LPA program underpins the excellent returns livestock producers are currently enjoying,” he said.
“If we don’t keep enhancing our systems we are at risk of losing how well we can compete in current beef, sheep and lamb markets, particularly from a global perspective.”
LPA accredited producers will need to complete a regular assessment as well complete new online learning modules to gain additional skills.
Changes are expected to be introduced October 1.
