SHOW SUCCESS: The Lucindale Area School Sheep team with a fleece from their Merino Wethers at the Royal Adelaide Show.

Lucindale Area School is celebrating the success of its students at the Royal Adelaide Show.

34 years-eight to 12 students exhibited Angora Goats, Merino Wethers and Steers, while six students were also chosen to participate in the DECD Ag Learning Centre.

For the first time in a number of years, Lucindale is again competing in the School Wine competition – it entered eight wine labels, while students worked closely with DiGiorgio Family Wines to produce a Cabernet Sauvignon.

Lucindale Area School Goat Team exhibited six goats supplied by Aanaarden Park Angoras –  they received 1st , 2nd and 3rd in the Adult Wether Goat competition, and 1st and 2nd in the Doe under-14 month class.

Shari Vickers placed 3rd in the Junior Handlers class and Isabella Stock placed 2nd in the State Angora Young Judges Final, who will now go on to the National Angora Young Judges Competition in 2018.

Lucindale exhibited two pens in the School Merino Wether competition, students were awarded a 5th place for our meat carcass value.

From our student team, we have had great success with Angelique Dellaney awarded Champion Prime SAMM Young Judge and Jack Walker placing 2nd  overall.

The Merino Wethers were supplied by Andrew Michael of Leahcim and the school thanked him for his support.

Year 12 student Dana Clutterbuck awarded ‘Champion Experienced Handler’ in the South Australian Young Beef Breeders School Handler Class.

The school also wished to thank David and Katrina Copping – Cannawigra Poll Herefords, Clarrie Pike - Yaccamoo Charolais, Regan and Karen Burow - Yerwal Estate Simmental and Angus Stud and Stuart and Natalie Hann – Nampara Angus Stud for supplying our cattle and assisting us in preparing both the cattle and students with their expertise around handling, showing and dietary needs.

In assisting with preparation for the show, students benefited from attending the Young Judges Day held in Naracoorte which was organised by Amanda Lock.

Steph Brooker Jones from Elders Lucindale also came in to talk to students about the different fleece types and what to look for when judging the fleeces.
