Shutdown delayed

ELECTRICITY maintenance planned in Padthaway for the early hours of last Monday morning was cancelled after local grape growers expressed concerns about a forecasted frost.

SA Power Networks had scheduled the shutdown from midnight to 6am but was forced to call it off after complaints growers would not be able to use frost fans and sprinklers to avoid damage.

Padthaway Grape Growers Association vice-president Joe McInnes said it was agreed to hold off the maintenance shutdown for a couple of weeks so there was less risk of a frost.

"Everyone was very happy with the outcome," he said. "There is no doubt that the work needs to be done but they could have rung us, knowing Padthaway is a big wine region.

"There was a lot of angst over the situation when there could have been a simple solution.

"Next time a phone call to us to find out the optimal or best time for a power cut, if the work is not urgent, is all they need to do."
