Regardless of the windy conditions, an excellent number of ladies ventured out onto the fairways to participate in this week’s competition at Lucindale.

Playing in pairs, the ladies played a Club Foursomes Championship and the Shylie Rymill Foursomes nett event. This year’s champions were Sharon Menz and Isobel Carracher with a respectable gross 95. Runners-up were Michelle Justin and Karena Higgins. All the best to Sharon and Izzy as they represent Lucindale at Naracoorte in July.

The club was fortunate to have Shylie Yelland give an impromptu talk on how the Shylie Rymill competition came into play. This is a State competition named in honour of Shylie’s grandmother, a pivotal member responsible for the formation of the SA Ladies Golf Union. She was president from 1925-1929 and State Champion in 1913. A century later her granddaughter is honouring her memory.

Sharon and Isobel were also the winners of the Shylie Rymill nett event with a nett 76. Michelle and Karena were the bridesmaids with nett 78. Nearest the pin on the third was by Nicole Hocking, while Wendy Johnson won on the 12th and Sharon Menz on the 16th.

Congratulations to Judy James winning the B grade nett event at Penola’s Open day and a special mention to Vanessa Stone, Karena Higgins, Vickie Snodgrass and Sharon Menz for coming second at Heywood’s Holden Scramble Ambrose on Friday. – The Green Ranger.
