Naracoorte Soroptimists have started 2017 with a bang, serving the community and raising vital funds for local and international causes.

Members served fruit and juice to the large crowd at the Naracoorte Australia Day breakfast.

Many people chose the healthy option and members received lots of positive feedback from what was a very successful event for the Naracoorte Lucindale Council.

The 2017 Denise Grieve scholarship for a female Year 12 student at Naracoorte High School received a number of applications, with interviews being conducted in January. The winner of the $1000 scholarship will be announced publicly soon.

At our Christmas wind-up in December, members made a cash donation in lieu of Kris Kringle presents and raised $68.

This was rounded up to $100 at our recent meeting, with this money being donated to the Soroptimist International South West Pacific President’s Appeal.

The President’s Appeal project is building homes and shelter centres in Fiji for women and children affected by domestic violence - a very worthy cause.

One of the Soroptimist clubs in Fiji is driving the project, so funds are being distributed directly to the area of need.

Members worked at the entrance to the Taste Festival, selling glasses to interested patrons. This annual event is an important fundraiser for the club and members enjoy working together with the Naracoorte Lions Club to ensure it is a success each year.

The major event on the Naracoorte Soroptimist calendar is the International Women’s Day celebration, which is fast approaching on March 8. This year, the guest speaker will be Dr Rachel Hawker, who has recently returned to Naracoorte after spending 2016 in Antarctica working as a doctor (and many other roles!).

The event will be held at the Kincraig Hotel. Tickets cost $15 at the door, which entitles guests to a drink on arrival, canapes/finger food and lots of networking opportunities.

There will also be display tables featuring some of the events and activities which Naracoorte Soroptimists are involved in locally and further afield. RSVPs are essential for catering, so please let Pat know if you can attend on 0422 521 499 or

You can also find out more about the event on the Naracoorte Soroptimists Facebook page at Anyone interested in joining Soroptimists or finding out more information about our events or activities should contact secretary Norma Davis on or 0427 041 916.
