Limestone Ladies prepared for 2018

Following a short break over the Christmas holidays, the Limestone Ladies CWA group commenced its 2018 calendar with a healthy turnout at their first meeting of the year last week.

The theme was Meet and Greet with Cocktails, and the group were thrilled to welcome some new faces.

President Amy Cheminant opened the meeting and reflected on a very successful 2017 calendar of workshops that varied from stone carving, sewing, painting, to cheese appreciation, cake decorating and fruit art.

With learning new skills an integral part of the group’s philosophy, plans for this year’s workshops include the preservation of fruit, how to make shower bombs, learning the skill and secrets of sour dough, and chocolate making, along with events such as a day trip to Wagner’s Roses Open Day and an information session from the local doctors.

Another focus of the Limestone Ladies CWA group is to be able to give back to the local community through fundraising and volunteering, and in 2017 over $4000 was donated to local community groups.

These groups included The Men’s Shed, Naracoorte Lucindale Community Care Network, Naracoorte Hospital Maternity Ward Upgrade, Naracoorte Breast Cancer Support Group, The Lions Club Pioneer Park project, The SACVW Dorothy Dolling Scholarship Fund, State Emergency Fund and the SACWA State Objective.

The Limestone Ladies were also the sponsor group behind the successful $150k Fund My Neighbourhood application for a Nature Playground at the Naracoorte World Heritage Caves, and plan to work with the project group in the future.

The Limestone Ladies enjoy collaborating with other local community groups and have been involved in events such as the Naracoorte Hospital Fete (with all proceeds going towards the Naracoorte Hospital Maternity Ward Upgrade), a bake sale with the Naracoorte Red Cross, a stall at the Naracoorte Show, and catering for the opening of the new Men’s Shed.

In the future the group are planning to utilise the knowledge of the Men’s Shed to learn some wood working skills (in exchange for a home cooked supper!), host a further training session through the Country Fire Service around bushfire safety, and continue their support of the Naracoorte Hospital Maternity Ward Upgrade with the marketing and selling of plaques for the ward feature wall.

Their next event is fruit preserving, to be held at the CWA clubrooms on Sandstone Avenue, on Wednesday February 21 starting at 7pm.
