Taste golf day a big hit | PHOTOS

Hot weather could not deter a field exceeding 100 golfers from playing in the annual Taste Festival 4 Ball Ambrose sponsored by Minijumbuk and DiGiorgio Family Wines last Friday.

The players were greeted to quality on course catering and prizes exceeding $3000 in value.

Following the conclusion of play, Darren Turner of Mini Jumbuk and Frank DiGiorgio of DiGiorgio Family Wines conducted the presentations before guests enjoyed an early dinner in the clubhouse.

The scores at the top of the leaderboard were very close as they often are in an ambrose event. The winning team consisted of John Finnis, Loren Bald, Trent Waters and Michael Parker who started strongly but couldn’t quite get the putts to drop later in the day yet still managed to hold on for the win from the team of James, Fizz, Henry and Alice Norcock.

In third place was the team of Terry Paech, Heath Paech, Ryan Paech and Josh Pettman.

Optus were a new sponsor to the event and sponsored the nearest to pin on the 16th hole which was won by Ryan Paech who is the proud new owner of a Samsung Galaxy. The other trick shots were won by Roger Pridmore for nearest to the pin on the 12th, Henry Norcock for long drive on the 8th and Fizz Norcock for long drive on the 8th.

Once again, the Taste Festival Ambrose was one of the highlights on the golfing calendar and a credit to all those involved.

The following day, a Saturday competition was held where a field of 56 players played a Stableford event. Despite strong winds, the scoring was impressive with Sam Jude winning A grade with 42 points from Bill Moorhouse who was runner-up on a count back from Paul McCarthy both players having 41 points.

The B grade winner was Fletcher Mitchem from Warrnambool who amassed 45 stableford points away from his home course. Adam Mathieson was only able to take the runner-up prize with his 41 points.

The ladies winner was Sara Crawford with 36 points from Di McCully with 33 points.
