Laura Hawkins will be competing in Swinging with the Stars for Naracoorte and District, and she has two absolutely cracking fundraisers coming up.
On May 27 there will be a screening of The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society at the Naracoorte Town Hall, with a free glass of wine on arrival. Arrive at 2pm for a 2.30pm start – grab a couple of girlfriends and have a great Sunday out!
Tickets can be picked up at Helloworld Naracoorte, Gigi Cafe, or the Frances Hotel.
It trivia is more your thing, there will be a Trivia Night at the Naracoorte Golf Club on June 1, 6.30pm for a 7pm start.
But a warning, as well as testing out your general knowledge, the night will also test your wallet – there’s going to be heaps of fantastic items donated by local businesses in an auction.
“A big thank you to Elders, Haynes Engineering, Redden Bridge, Beaurepaires, Mini Jumbuk, Natural Beauty Works, Brippick and more for their donations towards the trivia night auction,” Laura said.
All funds raised go towards the Stand Like Stone Naracoorte and Districts sub fund, and tickets are $20 at the door.
But make sure to get in quick, as the popular event already has tables being booked!
“It’s going to be really exciting,” Laura said of the Trivia Night.
“It’s just been so awesome to have so many local businesses help out.”
As for Swinging with the Stars itself, Laura is “loving it”.
“It’s a great thing to do, and when I learned what Stand Like Stone do, it’s just a great cause,” Laura said.
“It was an honour to be nominated!”
Whilst going to Mount Gambier for weekly dance practice is a big commitment, Laura is having a fantastic time getting to know the other dancers.
“It’s trickier than I ever imagined,” Laura said of dancing, but she and her partner, Cody Smith from Millicent, get on like a house on fire, and Laura describes their practice as “really fun”.
“I’m loving the rehearsals, the more difficult they are the funnier it is, as your body is trying to do something it has never done before!
“It’s great to have fun and a laugh with the other dancers. I can’t wait to see how it all comes together on the night!”
Laura is raising money for the Naracoorte and District Stand Like Stone Sub Fund, which will benefit many local projects.
