A huge fundraiser is being held this Sunday to aid in the recovery from injury of long-time Naracoorte local Greg Pedler.
A painting business owner, Greg received serious head injuries when he had a stroke and fell from scaffolding while painting on November 23 last year.
With the support of his wife Wendy and three children, Greg has made some improvement and has moved from hospital into a rehabilitation facility at Hampstead, but he faces a long and uncertain recovery period.
Wendy said Greg is making progress in some areas, with limited assisted walking a positive development.
But he is unable to speak and finds it difficult to communicate, and he won’t be able to work in the foreseeable future.
Now, the community and some of the sporting groups that Greg and his family have been involved with over the years are coming together to raise funds to help in his recovery.
A small group of organisers have put together an afternoon of entertainment at the Kincraig Hotel beer garden this Sunday, with all funds raised going towards Greg’s recovery.
Auction items include: Signed AFL jumpers Jess Trengove signed Olympics top Fridge/freezers Accommodation Wine/produce/wood Much more
Popular local musician Shaun Brown will play in the beer garden from 2pm, with raffles and other activities running over the next few hours.
At 4pm, an auction will be held with more than 50 items that have been donated from far and wide.
Some of the more sought-after items will include sporting pieces such as a signed Rio Olympics athletics top from Jess Trengove, signed AFL guernseys from Adelaide, Geelong, Melbourne, Port Adelaide and Western Bulldogs clubs, a billiards/air hockey flip table and tickets to two AFL games.
Others sure to attract bidding are an overnight camp cook-up for 10 people valued at up to $2000, two Engel fridge-freezers worth $1000 each, several trailer loads of wood, dressed sheep, beauty products, many bottles of wine, accommodation, gym classes, a quilt, a floor rug and much more.
