The Naracoorte Photography Club will be hosting a beginner’s class on August 5, and would like to invite anyone interested in capturing the perfect shot to come along.
The class will be held at the Naracoorte High School art room, starting at 12.30pm and going for approximately five hours.
Vanessa Mikutta and Deb Kloeden, members of the Naracoorte Photography Club, explained that the class was popular many years ago, and they’ve decided to host another one after receiving requests.
The instructor is Peter Grieve, who is one of the original members of the Naracoorte Photography Club. Peter, along with club members, will be on hand to help out during the class.
The class will be a mix of theory and practical activities. The main aim of the class is to have people be comfortable with all aspects of their camera's function. They will also be the opportunity to brush up on skills, such as shutter speed, exposure levels, and depth of field.
The Club is very welcoming to photographers of all skill levels – Vanessa joined around three years ago as a novice photographer, and is now the co-President.
There are 18 members of the Club, all of them with their own cameras. Students in the beginner’s class must also bring along their own camera, and it is suggested that they also bring along their camera’s manual. (Digital manuals can be downloaded if you don’t have a physical copy).
The type of camera appropriate for the class is a digital DSLR.
Spaces are filling up quickly, with a maximum of 12 students in the upcoming beginners class. It’s $75 per person for club members, or $100 per person for non-members.
If a non-member wants to sign up to be part of the Club, their joining fee will be halved from $50 to $25. The Club meets every second Wednesday of the month, and membership fees cover insurance and gallery hire costs.
As well as practical activities, including indoor and outdoor photography, the Club has a regular best photo of the month competition.
Club members who are professional photographers include Gavin Blacker and Deb Kloeden. Deb used to teach photography at Naracoorte High before becoming a concert photographer.
Places need to be booked for the beginner’s class by July 27. For more information, contact Janet on 0427 365 095.
