Lucindale Area School’s “Class of 1959-60” have enjoyed a reunion more than half a century in the making.
The reunion was held at the Arkaba Hotel Adelaide over the weekend May 4-6, consisting of a Friday evening meet and greet function, a Saturday reunion luncheon, and a farewell barbecue lunch on the Sunday.
Over 60 guests including past students, their partners and teachers travelled from all around Australia (except Northern Territory and Canberra) to reunite, for most, since they were last together in 1959-60.
The reunion was the brainchild of four high school friends, Bev Sharp nee Tobiasen, Kaye Sims nee Mattner, David Campbell and Harvie Hele over a morning tea get-together in September 2017 in Adelaide.
A class photo was published in The Sunday Mail ‘Can You Help’ section on October 15 that year, and resulted in a very successful roll call.
Among attendees were past teachers Emeritus Professor Dean Jaensch, Bill Magor, Herb Simpfendorfer, Alan Hall, Wally Frank, Bob Rainsford and Helen Watson nee Ross.
Past student and teacher Emeritus Professor Paul Hughes led the academic charge of students, who have all exceeded in their chosen careers from all walks of life.
It was a delight to have so many past teachers joining the ex-students, with many interesting stories told and memories recalled.
The committee has enjoyed a few weeks of recovery time, but it is hoped by many who attended that a “Back to Lucindale School Reunion” may be held in the future. For information please contact:
