Naracoorte’s Red Cross to hold raffle for drought relief

The Naracoorte Branch of the Red Cross will be holding a raffle in Smith Street (near the bakery) for their Disaster Relief and Recovery Appeal on August 30.

Funds raised through the Disaster Relief and Recovery Appeal, which runs to the end of August, will be distributed where they are needed most, ensuring community input.

Figures show that 99 percent of NSW and 57 percent of QLD are in drought and, with a presence across regional and remote Australia, Red Cross members and volunteers have been mobilising to support communities locally.

“It’s time for everyone to rally together and show their support for drought-affected farmers and farming communities who are doing it tough,” Ms Slatyer said.

“We know this is a difficult time for farmers, their families and their communities across the country and we see first-hand how hard it is for people with ongoing financial and social responsibilities.

“In regional and remote locations, for many years our teams of volunteers and members have been there at the grass roots to lift community spirit, holding events to give people vital social connections, a shoulder to lean on and relief when it’s needed most.”

Red Cross is encouraging Australians to dig deep to support the effort. They can donate to the Disaster Relief and Recovery Appeal online at redcross.org.au/drought, by calling 1800 RED CROSS or by donating in person at a Commonwealth Bank branch around the country.

On a local level, there will be a Red Cross conference in Mundulla on September 6, and the Naracoorte Branch are currently liasing with the Naracoorte Lucindale Council about a public fundraiser.
