UPDATE: Two fatalities in crashes near Naracoorte

LATEST: Two people have died in separate accidents near Naracoorte on Saturday.

Update 9.10pm: A man has died following a second fatal crash at Naracoorte Saturday afternoon.

Just before 4.30pm Saturday September 1, police and emergency services were called to Riddoch Highway, approximately 4km north of Naracoorte, after a car crashed into a barrier before rolling off the road and colliding with a stobie pole.

Sadly, a passenger in the vehicle, a man believed to be in his 20s, died at the scene. The driver of the car, an 18-year-old man, was taken to the Naracoorte Hospital with minor injuries. The second passenger, a 22-year-old man, sustained non-life threatening injuries and was taken to the Naracoorte Hospital before being flown to the Flinders Medical Centre.

The Riddoch Highway between Repeater Station Road and MacMillan Road was closed for several hours while Major Crash Investigators examined the scene. The Highway has now been reopened to all traffic.

The man’s death takes the State’s road toll to 47, compared to 65 at the same time last year.

6pm UPDATE

There have been two serious vehicle accidents near Naracoorte today, with a fatal accident this morning south of the town, and a second crash at about 4.30pm north of the town.

SOUTH OF NARACOORTE: 

Police Major Crash Investigators have travelled to Mount Light in the State's South East following a fatal crash this morning.

Just after 8.30am on Saturday September 1, emergency services crews responded to a crash involving two cars and a utility on the Riddoch Highway near Clarksons Road about 5km south of Naracoorte.

The driver and only occupant of a Ford sedan, a 29-year-old Naracoorte man, sadly died at the scene.

Motorists driving in the area are advised traffic is being diverted around the crash site.

The State's road toll now stands at 46 compared to 65 at the same time last year.

ORIGINAL: Police and emergency services crews are currently responding to a serious crash near Naracoorte.

Just after 8.30am on Saturday September 1, two cars and a utility collided on the Riddoch Highway near Clarksons Road about 5km south of Naracoorte.

There are reports of serious injuries.

Motorists driving in the area are advised traffic is being diverted around the crash site.

Police are currently at the scene of a serious crash at Naracoorte.

ORIGINAL: NORTH OF NARACOORTE: Just before 4.30pm today, police and emergency services were called to Riddoch Highway, approximately 4km north of Naracoorte, after a car crashed into a stobie pole.

Motorists are warned that diversions are in place.

Police will be closing Riddoch Highway between Repeater Station Road and Vanstones Road. Please avoid the area and take an alternate route if possible.
