Bartenders get U.G.L.Y for charity!

Three hotels in Naracoorte are getting U.G.L.Y. in some way to help out the Leukaemia Foundation.

At the Bushman’s Arms, all of their staff have shown that it’s what on the inside that counts as all of them have decided to don an ‘U.G.L.Y.’ shirt (U.G.L.Y. stands for Understanding. Generous. Likeable. You.).

“It was easy,” staffer Pauline said of getting the bartenders involved in the campaign.

“All the staff were keen to be on board. We’ve done this for The Leukaemia Foundation a couple of times, but it was always something like having a donation tin on the bar.

“This year we’re giving it a right old crack!”

The Bushman’s Arms have already raised a couple of hundred dollars after a few days, and have noted that they’ve had great support from their customers.

All of the staff will be having an input in fundraising, and the Bushman’s Arms have a number of fundraising methods. As well as a jellybean counter they will also be having a blue dress up night.

They have been making cakes for morning teas, and haven’t ruled out a raffle or an auction – more updates will be posted to their Facebook page

The Naracoorte Hotel is also getting into the U.G.L.Y. campaign, with proprietor and staffer Josh Pettman donning the shirt.

They will also be holding an UGLY STICK 8 BALL competition, with all ticket sales going to the Leukaemia Foundation.

And the Kincraig Hotel have a donation tin on their counter, so make a change in someone’s life with some spare coins.

Each year, the Leukaemia Foundation helps more than 750 families from regional and rural Australia. They provide free accommodation for patients and families who need to commute to the cities for life-saving treatments at major hospitals.

Funds raised by U.G.L.Y. Bartender of the Year provide this accommodation at no cost to families, and since 2009 U.G.L.Y. Bartenders have raised over $11.7 million providing over 145,000 nights of accommodation.
