Young local soccer champ Aaryan Ghimire has been selected in the South Australian U15 Regional Boys State Team to participate in the international Ultimate Fiji Cup 2018.
Aaryan, 15, comes from Bordertown but plays for the Naracoorte United under 17s and has dedicated the past three years to soccer training in order to achieve his dream of being selected for the Regional Boys State Team.
”In April of this year they publicly advertised for soccer players to join the team,” he said. “I went to Wallaroo for the tryouts and I was selected.
“It’s always been a dream for me to play for that team – I was very overwhelmed!”
As well as playing for Naracoorte United’s under 17 team, Aaryan represents the Tatiara in the Limestone Coast U15 junior team.
“I trained with Bordertown’s Tatiara United last year but this year they don’t have a team so now I’m training with Naracoorte team and for the Limestone Coast,” he said.
“Playing in these teams have been great, it’s more advanced playing and it’s more challenging playing against different players across different regions.”
Aaryan said the U15 Regional Boys State Team would be travelling to Fiji in early December to compete in the international Ultimate Fiji Cup.
“My family isn’t coming, it will just be me and my team travelling and I’m really excited about that,” he said.
“The whole team gets along really well, we go on a four day camp and train every school holidays.”
Aaryan said he had applied for a grant from Tatiara District Council and a government sporting grant to help fund his trip.
“We’ve also been fundraising at Naracoorte United selling chocolates,” Aaryan said. “We’ve raised about $2000 in total so far.
“I’m slowly getting closer to having the full amount!”
Aaryan said he would like to thank Tatiara United president Spiro Tsaousoglou and Naracoorte United treasurer Jon Thurlow, U17 coach Jay Ratthanachan and senior coach Tommy Navickas.
“These people have especially helped me reach my goals and I’m so thankful!”
