Gardening extraordinaire Sophie Thomson coming to the Penola Show

Gardening for improved mental health and how to control pest and diseases naturally will be the two topics Sophie Thomson will present at the Penola Show on Saturday October 27.

Sophie is no stranger to those in the region who are avid gardeners - with her helpful and enthusiastic horticultural knowledge passed on as the SA presenter for the ABC’s Gardening Australia program, as well as a weekly column in The Sunday Mail.

Additionally, Sophie has written books titled From the Ground Up and more recently Sophie’s Patch.

Sophie is passionate about the role gardening can play in people’s lives as a stress reliever.  With more people claiming to feel stressed in their daily lives, let alone having to deal with the challenges faced when experiencing natural disasters such as flood or fires, she is convinced that gardening has a vital role to play in individual and community health, which is being backed up by research and engagement worldwide.

The Penola Show is well known for its horticultural display that fills the Rymill Hall annually, in particular the rose section, with competitors coming from far and wide to compete for the $1000 first prize for champion rose. Sophie’s visit will enable the show to capitalise on her talents as well as promote the regions gardening credentials.

Sophie’s presentations will occur at the Penola Sports Club at 11am and 1.45pm. For more information about the Penola Show please grab a copy of the show book from most retail outlets in Penola and Coonawarra or go online to www.penolashow.com.au.
