Update: Fatal crash near Coonawarra

UPDATE: Police and emergency services are currently at the scene of a serious crash near Coonawarra in the state’s South-East.

About 3.50pm on Sunday October 7, police responded to reports of a two car crash on the Riddoch Highway near Rocky Castle Road.

The driver of a Toyota hatchback, a 73-year-old woman from the Limestone Coast, sadly died at the scene. The driver of the other car sustained leg injuries and he was taken to the Mount Gambier Hospital for treatment. A boy who was a passenger in the car was also taken to Mount Gambier hospital but was not injured.

The Riddoch Highway is currently closed around the crash scene with light vehicles being diverted at Rocky Castle Road for south bound and McLean Road for north bound traffic.

Heavy vehicles travelling south will be diverted at Edenhope Road and at Penola for north bound heavy vehicles.

Major Crash Investigators are attending to examine the circumstances surrounding the crash.
