Two very sore feet, 145km and $9000 – they were the key figures to come out of a highly successful walk for beyondblue by Justin Chester last week.
Justin walked from Horsham to Naracoorte to raise funds and awareness for beyondblue, honouring the memory of two of his nephews Josh Finlay and Ben Jolley who took their own lives in the past decade.
Justin walked 63km Monday (October 8), 30km Tuesday, 30km Wednesday and 22km Thursday, arriving in Naracoorte late afternoon, with a group of locals meeting him to walk the last few kilometres.
Justin’s sister-in-law Katrina Jolley said while the walk was tough, Justin enjoyed it, with “lots of people shopping to chat with him along the way, telling their stories and donating.
“He finished the walk with lots of blisters and sore feet but said it was all worth it.”
There was a great turnout at the Kincraig Hotel on Friday night for celebrations and a fundraising auction, with the hotel donating all proceeds from the usual Friday night meat raffle of $185.
With auctioneer Richard Harvie doing a great job providing fun and laughter, the auction featuring donated goods from Naracoorte, Stawell, Ararat, Horsham and Coonawarra raised $2400.
More than $9000 has been raised so far, with a final tally likely to be calculated at the end of the week when the rest of the tins are collected.
