... we tailor our support around our clients and they have a say in their care.
“Your support, your way”.
That is the philosophy of disability support service People First Community Care, which began operating in January.
Owner and operator Bianka Carson said she established People First Community Care after realising there was a gap in the market for a locally-based, client-focused disability support service.
Bianka has more than a decade’s experience in the community services sphere, including roles as a disability support worker, nurse and service co-ordinator at a not-for-profit organisation.
She also has personal experience as a mother of two children with a disability.
Working in disability support was a rewarding role, Bianka said, because it enabled her to work with a range of other people and make a difference in their lives.
People First Community Care offers an extensive range of support services, including 24-hour respite, help with daily activities, social and community access, household duties, group activities and support co-ordination.
Bianka said the client focus was what set People First Community Care apart from many other organisations operating in the industry.
“We have the ability to be flexible with our support – we tailor our support around our clients and they have a say in their care.
“We make sure we are transparent with our communications and we put into practice what we say we are going to do.
“Whenever someone calls me they are talking directly to the person who can make changes, and I will always return calls as soon as possible.”
Bianka said all support workers on staff were trained in child-safe environments, bowel care, infection prevention and control, wound care, medication administration and PEG feeding.
Staff were also extensively screened before commencing work.
Support workers are carefully selected to match their personalities, skills, values and experience with clients to assure a good fit between client and support worker.
Prospective clients are encouraged to explore People First Community Care’s counselling service.
An introductory offer available during November offers new clients their first five sessions at a reduced rate of $85 per session.
