Fire breaks out at Binnum

A fire at Binnum, approximately 15 kilometers North East of Naracoorte, was attended by the SACFS after it continued to burn freely in scrub last Friday.

On scene at the incident five CFS and two CFA fire trucks and a bulk water carrier. The fire burned into Saturday, but SACFS, assisted by CFA personnel, remained on the scene until the incident was under control.

Conditions were continually changing due to the erratic wind being observed on ground.

Heavy machinery had been deployed to the incident to assist in establishing mineral earth breaks to the fires’ parameter. An aerial observation flight assisted with incident planning and forward prediction.

The Binnum fire posed no threat to the surrounding communities.
